Our Standards

Guardian ad Litem Standards of Practice

The Guardian ad Litem Project Advisory Committee drafted Guidelines for Guardians ad Litem Practicing in the Court of Common Pleas for Cuyahoga County ~ Juvenile Division, which were adopted by the Court in Local Rule 19(E).

In 2001, the Ohio Supreme Court formed the Guardian ad Litem Standards Task Force recognizing the important role the GAL serves in the judicial system. The Guardian ad Litem Project's Guidelines already comply with the vast majority of the Task Force Recommendations. These proposed standards have undergone modification over the last 7 years. They are expected to be formalized in Rule 48 of the Rules of Superintendence later this year.
